Founder of RestoraLux
A passion for precision, innovation and preserving the past for the future.
I'm Gerry Glynn, founder of RestoraLux, a specialist laser-cleaning and precision surface-restoration business based in South Devon.
I've spent much of my working life in the film and television industry as a senior special-effects technician, contributing to major productions including Avengers, Peaky Blinders, Fantastic 4, Doctor Who etc. It's a career that has taken me into demanding environments where technical knowledge, creativity, problem-solving and attention to detail are all essential.
I've always enjoyed working with my hands, understanding how things work and finding practical solutions to difficult challenges. I've also developed a real appreciation for craftsmanship and the skill that goes into making things built to last.
Living by the coast in South Devon, I've often noticed just how many beautifully made objects, pieces of machinery and marine components are left exposed to the elements, slowly disappearing beneath years of rust and corrosion.
I've always found that a shame. Behind every one of those objects is someone's skill, hard work and craftsmanship. To see that potentially lost to corrosion feels like such a waste.
When I first saw laser-cleaning technology demonstrated firsthand, something immediately clicked.
Watching years of corrosion being carefully removed to reveal the original surface underneath was fascinating. I could instantly see the possibilities, not just for cleaning metal, but for helping to preserve things that might otherwise be neglected, discarded or replaced.
I knew there and then that this was something I would genuinely enjoy doing.
That experience inspired me to take a new direction in my career and establish RestoraLux.
My vision is to combine modern laser-cleaning technology with a careful, professional approach to surface restoration, helping customers protect and maintain valuable assets while respecting the craftsmanship behind them.
From marine engineering and industrial machinery to heritage features and classic vehicles, I believe every project deserves proper assessment, precision and attention to detail.
For me, RestoraLux is about more than removing rust, coatings or contamination. It's about appreciating what has already been created, recognising its value and using modern technology to help extend its working life.
I'm proud to be building the business here in South Devon, working towards developing lasting relationships with local businesses, engineers, restoration specialists and customers across the South West.
Because sometimes, the most exciting thing about new technology is what it allows us to preserve from the past.

The business
Dedicated expertise in advanced laser cleaning.
Restoralux provides specialist laser cleaning using pulsed fibre laser technology. The process removes corrosion, coatings and contamination at a controlled depth, making it suitable for many substrates where abrasive or chemical methods risk causing damage. Settings are always confirmed on a test area first. Few contractors in the South West offer this capability, and laser cleaning is the only method we use.
Every job begins with careful calibration. Pulse energy, frequency, spot size and traverse speed are set to suit the specific substrate and coating, verified on a test area and recorded. Thin sheet steel, bronze castings and soft brick, for example, each call for different settings, and recording them allows results to be repeated consistently.
Every enquiry receives a clear, expert assessment, so you know exactly what laser cleaning will achieve before any work begins. Our service is fully mobile, as much of the work across Devon and Cornwall involves fixed structures, vessels and buildings, so we bring the equipment to you.

Proven on a test area
Every job starts with a trial area, so you see the finish in advance and receive an accurate, evidence-based quote.
Documented parameters
Laser settings are recorded for every substrate we treat, ensuring consistent, repeatable and fully traceable results.
Clear, expert guidance
We assess each job thoroughly and explain exactly what laser cleaning will achieve, so you can proceed with confidence.
A clean handover
Laser cleaning produces no blast media or slurry. Captured waste and used filters are taken away and disposed of correctly, and the work area is left clean.
Equipment & safety
A Class 4 laser, run to the standard it deserves.
Pulsed fibre laser with adjustable pulse energy, frequency and scan pattern, HEPA-filtered extraction at the head, and a full temporary controlled-area kit that travels with it.

- Written risk assessment and method statement per site
- Screening, barriers and warning signage set up before keying on
- Public liability insurance and equipment documentation on request
- Particulate captured at source, with waste and filters disposed of correctly
On shared and public sites the controlled-area boundary is agreed with you in advance, and we are used to working out of hours where that keeps a business trading.
The wider point
Cleaning without leaving something else behind.
No abrasive to buy, contain or sweep up. The main consumables are electricity and extraction filters.
No run-off into drains, docks or watercourses, and no saturated masonry or trapped moisture.
No hazardous liquids on your site, no COSHH storage, no neutralising, no effluent to consign.
